Newly minted court interpreters routinely swear an oath to abide by a professional code of ethics which seems straightforward, reasonable and almost intuitive. But with some time and experience behind them, they find the rulebook wanting, insufficient, unclear.

This webinar discusses a collection of real-life dilemmas which have challenged seasoned interpreters, revealing potential internal contradictions between the code and our larger duties as agents of justice and equal access.

We will also explore the conflicts inherent in adhering strictly to any code that is not moral in nature.
This webinar does not intend to prescribe the correct path to follow, but rather to shed light on the ethical difficulties faced, offering a forum for honest discussion.





Instructor: Jason Knapp is a freelance Spanish/English interpreter and translator based in Louisville, KY. He is both state and federally certified as a court interpreter. He holds a post graduate diploma in specialized interpreting from Universidad del Salvador. Jason is active in several professional associations and currently serves on committees for both NAJIT and the ATA.
